The lake and surroundings

Acquaseria Lake House is in the Central Lake area, 4 km from Menaggio and close to the Tremezzina, and is also conveniently placed for reaching Lugano, in Switzerland. From here you can easily reach both the most famous places on Lake Como and the quieter villages of the Upper Lario.

Lake Como and the surroundings of Acquaseria

Upper Lario

North of Acquaseria lies the Upper Lario, the northernmost and least crowded part of the lake, where villages keep an authentic character. Gravedona, Domaso and Dongo, with lakefront promenades, restaurants, markets and ferries to cross from one shore to the other, are easy to reach.

In Gravedona the Romanesque church of Santa Maria del Tiglio, with its slender bell tower, and the sixteenth-century Palazzo Gallio on the waterfront are well worth a visit. Further north you will find the Abbey of Piona, on the Olgiasca promontory in Colico, and the Pian di Spagna and Lake Mezzola nature reserve, a paradise for birdwatchers.

Central Lake

On the western shore the Tremezzina area holds two easily reachable jewels: Villa Carlotta, with its botanical garden, and Villa del Balbianello, on the tip of Lenno.

Reachable by ferry or by car, Bellagio, the “pearl of the lake”, invites you to stroll through stone alleys and visit the gardens of Villa Melzi and Villa Serbelloni; in Varenna, opposite on the eastern shore, colourful houses on the water frame Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi.

The city of Como

At the south-western tip of the lake, Como combines the charm of a historic city with the beauty of the water. Start from the Duomo and the old town, stroll along the lakefront past the Tempio Voltiano to Villa Olmo, and take the funicular up to Brunate to admire the lake from above.

Sports and nature

The lake is a big playground: thanks to its regular winds, Upper Lario is a favourite for sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing, while on calm days you can paddle a canoe, kayak or stand-up board, swim and fish.

On land, trails between lake and mountains invite long walks, such as the historic Via Regina, the Sentiero del Viandante or the nearby Greenway del Lago di Como, while cyclists and mountain bikers will find plenty of routes. Menaggio also has a golf course and a mini-golf course.
